The WMU–Sasakawa Global Ocean Institute

The WMU–Sasakawa Global Ocean Institute, established at the World Maritime University in Malmö, Sweden, serves as a think tank and catalyst for advancing ocean governance, research, and capacity development. Through its academic programs and multi-stakeholder collaborations, the Institute addresses critical challenges in ocean sustainability, empowering future leaders and policymakers. As a Sail for Impact pioneer, it bridges academic knowledge with experiential engagement at sea, promoting education, leadership, and transformative action for the ocean.
The IDG Global Ocean Network

The IDG Global Ocean Network is a transnational platform that links the Inner Development Goals (IDGs) framework with global ocean literacy and sustainability initiatives. It explores how personal growth and human values can translate into collective ocean action—cultivating awareness, empathy, and resilience to drive systemic change. As a Sail for Impact pioneer, the Hub champions the inner dimension of sustainability, empowering individuals to reconnect with the ocean and lead with purpose.
The Blue Thread by UNESCO–IOC

The Blue Thread is a global initiative by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO, uniting diverse actors through storytelling, art, and science to weave connections between humanity and the ocean. It celebrates collective creativity and cross-sector collaboration to amplify ocean literacy and awareness. Within Sail for Impact, The Blue Thread represents the cultural and narrative dimension—bringing emotional depth and global visibility to ocean action.
Tarevoktere

Tarevoktere.org (“The Kelp Guardians”) is a Norwegian initiative dedicated to protecting and restoring kelp forests along the Scandinavian coast. Combining citizen science, community engagement, and ecological monitoring, Tarevoktere mobilizes local ocean stewards to take tangible climate-positive action. As part of the Sail for Impact network, they demonstrate how grassroots collaboration and hands-on restoration can revive marine ecosystems and strengthen our connection to the sea.
PVO Expeditions

PVO Expeditions is a non-profit sailing expedition/racing team based in Copenhagen that connects people and purpose through ocean-driven initiatives. By merging exploration, storytelling, and interdisciplinary collaboration, PVO Expeditions transforms sailing into a platform for impact—bridging science, art, and industry to inspire systemic change for a sustainable ocean future. Their expeditions create awareness, foster dialogue, and activate real-world action under the shared mission of Sail for Impact.
